예수님은 우리 눈에 안 보이고 어떻게 찾아야 하는지 잘 모르지만, 예수님은 우리 곁에 살아계십니다. 그런데 살아계신 예수님을 믿지 않고 다른 방법을 따라가면 예수님과 점점 멀어져서 은혜를 입을 수 없습니다. 이제 여러분이 예수님을 기억하고 의지하면, 예수님이 베드로의 집에 찾아가신 것처럼 여러분을 찾아가실 것입니다.

베드로의 집에 가신 예수님
성경 마태복음 8장에는 예수님이 각색 병자들을 고치신 이야기가 나옵니다. 한번은 예수님이 베드로에게 말씀하셨습니다.
“베드로야, 오늘 네 집에 가보자.”
“네? 저희 집에요? 네, 예수님. 알겠습니다.”
베드로는 갈릴리에서 고기 잡는 일을 하는 어부였습니다. 그런데 어느 날, 고기를 한 마리도 잡지 못하고 실망에 빠져 있을 때 예수님을 만났습니다. 예수님은 베드로에게 깊은 데로 가서 그물을 던지라고 하셨고, 베드로는 예수님의 말씀을 의지하여 그물을 내려 고기를 많이 잡았습니다. 그날부터 베드로는 모든 것을 버려두고 예수님의 제자가 되었습니다. 

기쁨과 행복이 가득한 집
예수님이 베드로의 집에 가셨을 때, 베드로의 장모가 열병에 걸려 앓아 누워 있었습니다. 예수님이 그 모습을 보시고 장모의 손을 만지셨습니다. 베드로의 장모가 자리에서 일어나며 말했습니다.
“어? 이제 머리가 안 아프네요. 열이 내려갔어요. 예수님, 감사합니다.”
베드로 장모의 열병이 나은 것입니다. 베드로의 장모가 예수님께 말했습니다.
“예수님, 식사하고 가세요. 제가 얼른 밥해드릴게요.”
그러고는 곧장 부엌으로 가서 음식을 만들어 예수님께 대접해 드렸습니다.
열병에 걸려 음식도 못 먹고 정신을 못 차리던 사람이 예수님을 만나 병이 낫고는 얼마나 기쁜지 예수님께 음식을 대접해 드린 것입니다. 베드로와 가족들 또한 얼마나 기뻤겠습니까? 예수님도 여자가 병이 나아 요리하는 것을 보며 기뻐하셨을 것입니다. 그날 베드로의 집에는 기쁨과 행복이 가득했습니다.

베드로의 집에 왜 가셨을까?
그날 예수님이 베드로의 집에 왜 가셨는지 성경에는 기록되어 있지 않습니다. 그러나 예수님이 베드로의 집에 가셔서 특별히 다른 일을 하신 것이 아니고 장모의 병을 고쳐주신 것만 기록된 것을 보면, 베드로의 장모가 병을 앓고 있는 것을 아시고 일부러 찾아가셨을 거라고 생각합니다. 
예수님은 병든 사람이 있는 집에 가셔서 병을 고쳐주시고, 어려운 일을 당한 집에 가셔서 문제를 해결해 주시고, 두려움에 떠는 집에 가셔서 두려움을 물리쳐 주시고, 절망 속에 있는 집에 가셔서 기쁘고 복된 삶을 살게 이끌어 주십니다. 그렇기 때문에 여러분이 어려운 일을 당할 때 낙심하지 말고, 억울한 일을 당할 때 화내지 말고 예수님을 의지하면 됩니다. 

제일 행복한 사람
물론, ‘내가 어려운 문제가 있는데 어떡하지?’ 하고 괴로워하다가 부모님을 의지할 수도 있습니다. 어릴 때부터 부모님의 손길 아래에서 커왔기 때문에 부모님의 도움이 필요한 것은 맞습니다. 그러나 점점 나이가 들어 자라면 부모님이 해 줄 수 없는 것이 생깁니다. 아플 때 의사 선생님을 의지할 수도 있습니다. 그러나 아무리 훌륭한 주치의가 있다고 해도 여러분을 늘 따라다닐 수는 없습니다. 
여러분이 정말 힘들 때 믿고 의지할 분이 누구일까요? 바로 예수님입니다. 여러분이 집에서 지낼 때나 학교에서 공부를 할 때나 어디를 가든지 예수님은 여러분과 함께하시면서 여러분을 지켜주실 수 있습니다. 그래서 ‘예수님께서 베드로 집에 가셔서 베드로의 장모가 앓아 누운 것을 보신 것처럼 내가 아픈 것을 보시겠네’ 하는 마음을 가져야 합니다. 그리고 ‘예수님이 나를 어떻게 고쳐주실까?’ 하고 예수님을 생각하면, 정말로 예수님이 여러분을 위해서 일하시는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. ‘내가 예수님을 믿는데 예수님이 나를 못 본 척하실 리가 없어’ ‘내가 예수님께 기도했는데 예수님이 못 들은 척하실 일은 없어’ 하는 믿음을 가질 때 세상에서 제일 행복한 사람이 됩니다.

우리를 찾아오시는 예수님
사람들은 불신이 가득한 세상에서 살기 때문에 자기 생각에 믿을 만한 것 몇 가지만 믿으려고 합니다. 그리고 ‘믿었다가 잘못되면 어떡하나?’ 하고 염려합니다. 그런데 사람들을 잘못 믿었다가 손해를 보는 경우는 있지만, 예수님을 믿어서 손해를 본 사람은 없습니다. 예수님을 의지해서 실패한 사람도 없습니다. 예수님은 해결하지 못할 일이 없으십니다. 아무리 여러분에게 어려운 일이 닥쳐도, 아무리 집안이 가난해도, 아무리 중한 병에 걸려도 예수님은 능치 못할 일이 없습니다.
여러분 눈에 보이는 것을 믿으려고 하지 마십시오. 여러분 가까이에 능력 있는 사람을 의지하려고 하지 마십시오. 예수님을 눈으로 볼 수 없고 어떻게 찾아야 하는지 잘 모르지만, 예수님은 여러분 곁에 살아계십니다. 그런데 살아계신 예수님을 믿지 않고 다른 방법을 따라가면 예수님과 점점 멀어져서 은혜를 입을 수가 없습니다. 이제 예수님을 기억하고 예수님을 의지하면 예수님이 베드로의 집에 찾아가신 것처럼 여러분을 찾아가실 것입니다.

Jesus Visits Peter’s House
In Matthew 8 in the Bible, there are stories of Jesus healing various sick people. One day, Jesus said to Peter,
“Peter, let us go to your house today.”
“Pardon? My house? Yes, Jesus.”
Peter used to be a fisherman in Galilee. One day, after not catching any fish, he met Jesus. Jesus told Peter to go out into deeper water and cast his net. Trusting in Jesus’ words, he cast his net and caught a great number of fish. From that day on, Peter left everything behind to become a disciple of Jesus.

A House Filled with Joy and Happiness
When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was lying in bed sick with a fever. When Jesus saw her condition, He touched her hand. Peter’s mother-in-law sat up and may have said,
“Oh, my headache is gone. The fever has gone down. Thank you, Jesus.”
Her fever was gone. She then probably said to Jesus,
“Jesus, please stay for a meal. I will prepare it quickly.”
She went straight to the kitchen, prepared food, and served it to Jesus.
The person who had been too ill to get up and was barely conscious was now healed after meeting Jesus, and was so joyful that she served Him a meal. Imagine how happy Peter and his family must have been! Jesus must have been pleased to see the woman, healed and working, as well. That day, Peter’s house was filled with joy and happiness.

Why Did Jesus Go to Peter’s House?
The Bible does not record why Jesus went to Peter’s house that day. However, since it is specifically noted that Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law rather than anything else, it is likely that He went there intentionally, knowing she was suffering from a fever, to heal her.
Jesus visits homes with the sick to heal their illnesses. He visits homes with difficult situations to solve their problems. He visits homes with anxieties and dispels fears. He visits homes with despair to lead them to a joyful and blessed life. Therefore, when you face difficulties in life, rather than lose heart or become furious over injustices, rely on Jesus.

The Happiest Person
Of course, when going through difficulty, you might struggle and rely on your parents to help solve your problems. It is understandable when you need to turn to them for their help since you have been raised by your parents. However, as you grow older, there will be problems your parents cannot solve for you. When you are sick, you might rely on a doctor, but no matter how excellent the physician, they cannot be with you at all times.
When you are truly in trouble, who can you really rely on? It is Jesus. He can be with you and protect you whether you are at home, studying at school, or going anywhere. Thus, you need to have the heart to think, ‘Just as Jesus went to Peter’s house and saw his sick mother-in-law in bed, He will see my suffering too.’ And when you think about how Jesus will heal you, that’s when you can truly see Jesus working for you. Believing that “Jesus, whom I trust, would never ignore me’, ‘Jesus, whom I pray to, would never pretend not to hear me’ makes you the happiest person on earth.

Jesus Comes to Find Us
People live in a world filled with distrust and often rely on things that seem dependable to them. They worry, “What if it goes wrong after believing?” While you can suffer loss from trusting people, no one has ever lost anything by trusting Jesus. No one has ever failed by relying on Jesus. There are no problems that Jesus cannot solve. No matter how difficult the situation, how poor the family, or how serious the illness, there is nothing Jesus cannot handle.
Do not rely on what you see with your eyes. Do not depend on the capable people around you. Even though you cannot see Jesus physically or know exactly how to find Him, He is alive and right beside you. If you turn to other methods instead of placing your faith in the living Jesus, you risk growing distant from Him and missing out on His grace. Remember Jesus and rely on Him; just as He visited Peter’s house, He will come to find you, too.
