God Rescues Peter from Prison
옥에 갇힌 베드로
사도행전 12장에는 베드로가 감옥에 갇힌 이야기가 나옵니다. 당시 이스라엘을 다스리던 헤롯왕은 그리스도인들을 핍박했습니다. 한번은 헤롯이 요한의 형제 야고보를 죽였습니다. 유대인들이 그 일을 기뻐하는 것을 보고 헤롯은 베드로도 잡아들였습니다. 베드로를 감옥에 넣고 쇠사슬 두 줄로 묶었습니다. 군사 네 명씩 네 조가 베드로를 지켰습니다. 문밖에서는 또 다른 군사들이 지켰습니다. 베드로는 군사들 사이에서 잠이 들었고, 성도들은 베드로를 위해 간절히 기도했습니다.
천사를 보내주심
헤롯이 베드로를 끌어내 죽이기로 한 전날 밤, 갑자기 감옥 안에 밝은 광채가 가득했습니다. 천사가 나타난 것입니다. 천사가 베드로의 옆구리를 쳐서 깨웠습니다.
“베드로, 얼른 일어나라.”
그러자 베드로의 손을 묶고 있던 두 쇠사슬이 풀어졌습니다. 천사가 다시 말했습니다.
“허리띠를 띠고 신을 신어라.
그리고 겉옷을 입고 따라 오라.”
베드로는 천사가 시키는 대로 했습니다. 그러면서도 베드로는 ‘내가 지금 환상을 보는 건가?’라고 생각했습니다. 베드로는 천사를 따라 첫 번째 경비초소와 두 번째 경비초소를 지났습니다. 그러자 성으로 연결된 쇠문이 저절로 열렸습니다. 베드로가 거리에 나왔을 때 천사가 떠났습니다. 그제야 베드로는 정신이 들었습니다.
“하나님이 천사를 보내어 나를 헤롯의 손과 유대인들의 모든 기대에서 구해주셨구나!”
베드로는 자신을 죽이려는 헤롯의 손에서 벗어날 수 없었습니다. 감옥에서 하나님께 모든 것을 맡기고 잠이 들었습니다. 천사가 옆구리를 쳐서 깨울 정도로 깊이 잠들어 있었습니다. 하나님은 그런 베드로에게 천사를 보내셔서 너무 쉽게 구해주셨습니다.
베드로를 구하신 하나님
베드로는 그리스도인들이 모여 있는 요한의 어머니 마리아의 집으로 갔습니다. 집안에서는 사람들이 문을 걸어 잠그고 기도를 하고 있었습니다. 베드로가 대문을 두드렸습니다. 로데라는 어린 여종이 대문 앞에 와서 베드로의 목소리를 들었습니다. 로데는 너무 기뻐서 미처 문을 열지도 않고 안으로 달려 들어가 사람들에게 말했습니다.
“베드로 사도님이 대문 밖에 와있어요!”
그러자 사람들이 로데에게 “네가 미쳤구나! 베드로가 어떻게 감옥에서 나와? 베드로의 천사겠지”라고 했습니다. 기도하고 있던 사람들조차 베드로가 감옥에서 벗어날 거라고 생각하지 못한 것입니다. 나중에서야 사람들은 베드로가 정말로 감옥에서 나온 것을 보고 놀랐습니다. 사람들 중에 하나님을 본 사람은 없습니다. 하나님은 눈에 보이지 않지만 살아서 역사하시고, 하나님을 믿는 사람들을 지키고 도우십니다.
내 기도도 들으시네
제가 군대에 갈 때 돈이 하나도 없었습니다. 그러나 하나님은 제게 아무 부족함이 없게 해주시고 군대에서 마음껏 복음을 전할 수 있게 해주셨습니다. 사역을 하는 동안 먹을 것이 없어서 굶은 적도 많았지만, 하나님은 저를 굶어 죽게 내버려두지 않으셨습니다. 때로는 ‘아, 이제 여기서 끝나겠구나. 더 이상 복음을 전할 수 없겠다’ 하고 어려워했던 적이 있었지만, 하나님께서 그때마다 도우시고 새로운 힘을 주셔서 지금까지 전 세계에 복음을 전하게 해주셨습니다.
여러분 가정에 어려운 일이 생길 수도 있습니다. 친구들 사이에 문제가 생길 수도 있고, 병이 들어 아플 수도 있습니다. 그럴 때 하나님께 맡기고 기도해보십시오. 여러분이 기도할 때 “하나님 아버지!”라고 말하지요? 말로만 ‘아버지’라고 하지 말고, 정말로 하나님을 아버지라고 믿고 아버지를 의지하듯 의지해 보십시오. 그러면 ‘하나님이 나 같은 아이의 기도도 들으시네’ 하는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. 그렇게 여러분과 함께하시는 하나님을 믿고 인생을 살아간다면 그보다 더 복된 것이 없습니다.
작은 문제부터 하나씩 맡기면
군사들이 베드로를 지키고 있고 쇠사슬로 베드로를 묶어 놓았습니다. 그러나 하나님이 베드로를 묶고 있는 쇠사슬을 못 푸시겠습니까? 하나님이 베드로가 잡혀 있는 감옥 문을 못 여시겠습니까? 하나님은 얼마든지 하실 수 있습니다. 마찬가지로 하나님은 얼마든지 여러분을 도우실 수 있습니다. 그런 하나님과 마음이 하나가 되어야 합니다. 성경은 그것을 ‘믿음’이라고 말합니다.
어려울 때 인간적인 방법을 쓰지 말고 하나님께 맡겨보십시오. 처음에는 불안하고 걱정스러울지 몰라도, 하나님께 문제를 맡기면 하나님이 해결하시는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 잘 못 믿겠으면 작은 어려움이나 쉬운 문제부터 하나님께 맡겨보십시오. 하나님을 믿는 믿음으로 맡기면 하나님이 정확하게 해결해주시는 것을 볼 것입니다. 그렇게 한 번 두 번 하나님이 도우시는 것을 경험하다 보면 나중에는 큰 어려움을 만나도 하나님께 맡기고 싶은 마음이 듭니다. 처음부터 커다란 믿음의 사람이 되려고 하지 말고, 작은 것부터 하나하나 하나님을 믿고 맡겨보십시오. 형식적인 신앙생활이 아니라 하나님을 믿는 믿음으로 영광스럽고 복된 삶을 살기를 바랍니다.
Peter Imprisoned
In Acts 12, we find the story of Peter being imprisoned. At the time, King Herod, who ruled over Israel, persecuted Christians. On one occasion, he killed James, the brother of John. Seeing that this pleased the Jewish people, Herod also arrested Peter. He put Peter in prison and bound him with two chains. Four squads of four soldiers each were assigned to guard Peter, with additional soldiers stationed outside the prison. While Peter slept between the guards, the believers kept praying for him without stopping.
God Sends an Angel
The night before Herod planned to bring Peter out to be killed, a bright light suddenly filled the cell, and an angel appeared. The angel struck Peter on his side to wake him up.
“Peter, arise up quickly.”
At that moment, the two chains on Peter’s hands fell off. The angel spoke again.
“Put on your belt, sandals, and coat, and follow me.”
Peter did exactly as the angel told him. But as they walked, he may have thought, ‘Am I seeing a vision?’ Together, they passed the first and second guard posts. Then, a large iron gate leading to the city opened all by itself. Once they reached the street, the angel left. Peter finally realized what had happened.
“God sent His angel to rescue me from Herod and all the plans of the people who wanted to harm me!”
Peter had no power to escape Herod’s plan to kill him. He trusted everything to God and fell into a deep sleep, so deep that the angel had to wake him up by hitting him on his side. God made it easy for Peter to escape by sending His angel to help him.
God Rescues Peter
Peter went to Mary’s house, who was the mother of John, where many Christians were gathered. Inside, the people had locked the door and were praying. Peter knocked at the gate, and a young servant girl named Rhoda heard his voice. She recognized Peter’s voice and was so overjoyed that she ran back inside to tell the people without even opening the door.
“Peter is standing outside at the gate!” she exclaimed.
But the others didn’t believe her and said, “You must be out of your mind! How could he be free from prison? It must be his angel.”
Even the people praying hadn’t expected Peter to actually be freed from prison. Later, when they saw him standing there, they were amazed. No one has seen God. Even though God is invisible, He is alive, active, and always protecting and helping those who believe in Him.
God Hears My Prayers Too
When I entered the military, I did not have a penny. But God provided for me, ensuring I lacked nothing and giving me the chance to preach the gospel freely. During my ministry, there were many times when I had no food and went hungry, but God never let me starve to death. At times, I thought, “This must be the end - I won’t be able to continue spreading the gospel.” Yet each time, God helped me, giving me new strength to keep spreading the gospel around the world.
You might have difficulties in your home. There may be problems with friends, or you might get sick. During those times, try placing your trust in God and pray. When you pray, you say, “Heavenly Father!” right? Don’t just call Him “Father” with your words - truly believe He is your Father and rely on Him as you would on a loving parent. When you do this, you’ll find yourself realizing, “God hears even a child like me when I pray.” There is no blessing greater than living your life with faith in God who is always with you.
Entrust God with Small Problems, One by One
Soldiers were guarding Peter and had bound him with chains. But would God really not be able to free Peter from those chains? Or would he not be able to open the prison doors? God can do anything and everything. Likewise, God can help you with anything. We simply need to have a heart that is one with His. The Bible calls this “faith.”
When you face difficulties, instead of relying on humanistic ways, try entrusting your problems to God. At first, you may feel anxious or worried, but as you place your trust in God, you’ll see how He works things out. If it’s difficult to start, begin with small or simple problems. When you give them to God in faith, you’ll see how He provides the perfect solution. As you experience God’s help once, twice, and over time, you will naturally want to trust Him even with bigger challenges. Don’t try to have great faith right from the start. Begin by entrusting God with small things, one by one, and growing in faith along the way. I hope you can live a glorious and blessed life - not with formal faith from habit, but with a deep, trusting faith in God.
